Raafat El Mehi was an Egyptian screenwriter and director. He was born in 1940, and studied English literature and the faculty of arts, before joining the High Institute of Cinema and graduating from it in 1964. He debuted in 1966 with the script for the film And The Rains Have Dried, and in the 1970's, he started a fruitful and highly acclaimed collaboration with director Kamal El Sheikh that culminated in 4 feature films. In 1981 he made his first feature film as a director Sleepless Eyes, and followed it with The Lawyer (1983) and Love's Last Story (1986). Towards the late 1980's, he started another fruitful collaboration with actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, during which he wrote and directed three critically acclaimed films. In 2000, he made his last feature film, For God To Love You, after which he retired due to its financial failure, and founded his eponymous filmmaking academy. He died in 2015.
