An Egyptian writer and novelist, born in 1910. He lost his sight when he was sixteen. He obtained his baccalaureate degree in 1932, and tried to join the Faculty of Arts, department of Arabic Language. But he was refused due to his disability, so he sought help from Dr. Taha Hussein, who was dean of the faculty at that time. He was accepted, and graduated in 1940. During his studies at the university, he worked as a journalist The letter magazine. After graduating, he founded Al-Rawi magazine. He continued his studies until he obtained a master's degree on the biography of Al-Zahir Baybars, and for his interest in Egyptian folklore. He became a professor of popular literature in 1957. He authored a literary encyclopedia consisting of seven hundred pages, which was translated into English, French, Spanish and Japanese. It became a subject of study for the literature departments in Indian, American and Swedish universities. He contributed to the establishment of many literary centers in many Arab countries, and in recognition of his role, he was elected President of the Arab Council for Popular Literature. Among his artworks is the author of the movie Towards Glory. He died on September 13, 1988.
