One of the leading French writers and historians who was born on September 26, 1929 in Meese, Herault. He specialized in Arabic language and literature. He retired from the university in 1997. In cooperation with the Algerian researcher Jamal Al-Din Bin Sheikh, he issued an important translation of the first part of the tales of the Thousand and One Nights. It was published in a French series. He is known for the movie, Layla and the Crazy (1989).
