An Egyptian writer and novelist. He was born in Darb al-Maida, Al Sayeda Zainab neighborhood in Cairo, to a family of Turkish origin. He obtained his baccalaureate degree in 1921 to join the Royal Higher School of Law at Fuad I University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Law in...Read more 1925. He wrote many novels, short story collections and translations, the most important of which are The lamp of Umm Hashim, The Postman, Tear and Smile, Blood and Mud, and Antar and Juliet. A number of his literary works were transformed into films, plays and series, the most important of which are The lamp of Umm Hashim, and The Postman.
