An Egyptian actor and director, who, after being rejected at the Cinema Institute, studied at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, graduating in 2007. Despite that, he never worked in the legal field. Before graduating, he joined Clay, an independent theater troupe, and participated as an actor and assistant director in many shows over the course of three years and more. He also joined the second class of film school at El Nahda Association for Scientific and Cultural Renaissance (Jesuit Cairo) in 2007, where he learned low-cost filmmaking at the hands of director Karim Hanafy, who later became his close friend and the director of The Gate of Departure, the first film, in which he starred, and on which they worked for five years or more . The film also won the cinematography award at the 2014 Cairo Film Festival. The short feature film Cake with Cream was his graduation project in 2008. The film won several awards, including the Silver Falcon Award at the Arab Film Festival in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. After graduating from the Film School, he worked with the Center for Refugee and Immigration Studies of the American University, and directed the documentary film To the Sea, which participated in the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival 2009. After several short films and various acting workshops for theater and cinema, he participated in the movie Birds of the Nile (2009), which was directed by his father, Majdy Ahmad Ali, and was based on the novel of the same name by the great writer Ibrahim Aslan, and the film won many awards. The following year, he participated in the award-winning film Microphone directed by Ahmed Abdallah. As for television, he participated in many series, such as The Testament (The Permissible Speech), and The Preacher.

Ahmed Magdy graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, but did not work as a lawyer. Magdy joined the Clay theater troupe and worked as an actor, assistant director and actor trainer for many performances over a period of three years. His first film was the independent six-minute 2007 documentary work “Magra al-Seil” (“Riverbed”). Thereafter Magdy took part in a workshop titled “al-Zatt wa al-Madina – al-Qahira” (“The Self and the City- Cairo”) which was produced by the European Union and al-Sammat production company which saw the direction of a 9 minute documentary work titled “Zeezo”. Magdy also joined the Cairo Jesuit Cinema School for a year and directed three low budget short titles.
Magdy has taken part as an actor or assistant cameraman in more than 30 independent works. He was also in the 10 minute narrative film work “Keika Sagheera” (“Small Cake”). The title was his graduation project that was submitted to the workshop and received an honor from the judging committee at the Algeria Independent Cinema Festival.
Magdy’s final work as a director was “Illa al-Bahr…” (“To the Sea…”), the title was produced by the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies department at the American University in Cairo. Magdy also participated as an actor in “’Asafeer al-Neel” (“Birds of the Nile”). That title also starred Fathy ‘Abd Al Wahab and was directed by Magdy Ahmed ‘Aly. The work was adapted from a literature work by the same name which was authored by the renowned writer Ibrahim Aslan.
