Rachel Weisz is a British film and theater actress and former model. She was born on March 7, 1970, in London, England. She studied English at Cambridge University, where she also formed the Talking Tongues theater company, which experimented with avant-garde and performance art pieces. She moved into television, appearing in works like "Inspector Morse" (1993) and the British mini-series "The Scarlet and the Black" (1993). She made her film debut in "Death Machine" (1994), but got her breakthrough role in "Chain Reaction" (1996). She stole scenes in the imaginative blockbuster "The Mummy" (1999) and sequel "The Mummy Returns" (2001). Her memorable films include "About a Boy" (2002), "Constantine" (2005) and "The Constant Gardener" (2005), for which she won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a SAG award for her portrayal of the confrontational activist Tessa Quayle. Weisz is also active on stage, acting in the 2009 revival of "A Streetcar Named Desire," for which she earned the Critics Circle Theatre Award for Best Actress. She recently played Evanora in Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" (2013), Dr. Marta Shearing in "The Bourne Legacy" (2012), lead Hester Collyer in "The Deep Blue Sea" (2011) for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and a London Critics Circle Film award. For the role, she won the Toronto Film Critics Association award and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress.
