She is an American actress, born on August 9, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. She wanted to study aquatic biology, but her interest soon turned to acting because of the theatrical performances that she participated in high school. She obtained a BA of Fine Arts in 1990 from The Theatre School, DePaul University, Chicago. She started acting in the play, Absent Friends, which won her the Best Emerging Actress Award in 1991. She is best known for The X-Files, and Bleak House. She won two Golden Globes for her roles in the TV series The X Files and The Crown.
