An American actor, screenwriter, director and producer, born in 1970 in Virginia. He received his Doctor of Humane Letters at Hampden–Sydney College in Hampden Sydney, Virginia in 2014, and became known for writing and directing the movie Crazy Heart (2009). He also directed the movie Black Mass (2015).
