He also starred in Best Little Warhouse, a musical comedy film produced in 1982. Reynolds returned in 1997 to play the director of a pornographic film in Boogie Nights, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. As a teenager, Reynolds won a scholarship to play American football at Florida State University until he ended up with a knee injury, leading him to turn to local acting in state plays before moving on to film and television. He died September 6, 2018 in a Florida hospital after suffering a heart attack at the age of 82.
