She won the Filmfare Award, the most popular Indian film award, as Best Actress for her role in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). She presented the British independent film Provoked in the same year and participated in the epic film The Last Legion. She stood in front of the great British actor Sir Ben Kingsley, who presented the character of Gandhi in cinema, in addition to Colin Firth and Thomas Sangster.
