An American actor born on March 15, 1935 in The Bronx, New York. He is from German- Jewish origin. He studied at Dewitt Clinton High School in New York. After obtaining a university degree in physics, he served in the United States Army. He then worked as an engineer in Westinghouse before starting his acting career in theater. He won two Emmy Awards for his role in the hit sitcom Taxi (1978-1983). His other notable credits include Independence Day (1996), A Beautiful Mind (2001) and Ordinary People (1980).
