An American actor, he was born on June 3, 1925 in Manhattan, New York City. His parents were Hungarian-Jewish emigrants, and he had a tough childhood. He enlisted in the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then studied acting at The New School in Greenwich Village. His works include: Some Like It Hot (1959), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), Spartacus (1960) and The Persuaders (1971-1972). He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Defiant Ones (1958). Curtis was married six times and had 6 children, including actress Jamie Lee Curtis. He died on September 29, 2010, of cardiac arrest.
