Elwyn Brooks White was an American writer, born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921, and began writing for The New Yorker in 1925. White received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963, and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize special citation in 1978. He was known for writing several popular books for children, some of which were adapted into films, including Charlotte's Web (2006), Stuart Little (1999), and The Trumpet of the Swan (2001). He died on October 1, 1985.
