Robin Williams is an American comedian actor who was born on July 21, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. Williams is of English, Welsh, Irish, and French ancestry. His talent was apparent very early; as a quiet kid, he used to imitate his grandmother for his mother. He made his professional debut on the TV show "Happy Days" (1978), on which he played Mork. His popularity on the show led Williams to get his own offshoot show "Mork and Mindy" (1978–1982). His star continued to rise with "Off The Wall" (1978), "An Evening with Robin Williams" (1982) and "Robin Williams: Live at the Met" (1986). The talented comedian actor was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in "Good Morning, Vietnam" (1987). He was later nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "Good Will Hunting" (1997). The ever-versatile Williams avoided being pigeon-hole, and dove into dramatic and comedic roles alike. He turned in memorable performances in "Dead Poets Society" (1989), "The Fisher King" (1991), "Awakenings" (1990) and "What Dreams May Come" (1998), "Jumanji" (1995) and "Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993). In 2002 he played the role of a writer-killer in the psychological thriller "Insomnia" and an emotionally disturbed photo development technician in "One Hour Photo." Recently he voiced Ramon Lovelace in the computer-animated family musical film "Happy Feet 2" (2011). |
