He initially worked at the Royal National Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, after which he took a break...Read more from acting for several years as he returned to Ireland to work as a high school teacher. At the age of thirty-four, Gleeson returned to acting through Dear Sarah (1989), after which he starred in many films, including In Bruges (2008) and Calvary (2014).
