He was born on February 12, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He graduated from Harvard University where he was studying Anthropology in 1991, and then attended courses in animation. He began his artistic career by directing and writing the script for a number of short films. He is best known for Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and Mother!. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011 for the movie Black Swan.
