American actor, producer, and director born on 8 February 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts. He studied at Harvard while he was a Navy ROTC during WWII. He began his career in Hollywood in the early 1950s, and appeared in numerous roles till 2000. His most notable works include The Apartment (1960), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Some Like It Hot (1959), and Grumpy Old Men (1993). He won two Academy Awards in 1956 and 1974 for his roles in Mister Roberts and Save the Tiger, respectively. He died of bladder cancer on 27 June 2001.
