An American director, screenwriter, and actor, born in Chicago, United States. He began producing theatrical shows when he was a student. He founded a theater company in 1968, and produced and directed 4 shows, the last of which was a political version of Peter Pan, because of which he and his future wife Carolyn Purdy were arrested, then the charges were later dropped. Gordon moved to film directing in the mid-1980s with the film Re-Animator before turning the film into a musical play.
