American director, actor, and producer born on July 22, 1925 in New Jersey as Giuseppe Daniele Sorgente. He was trained at the Actors Studio in New York. His most-known works include The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), Nightmares (1983), and Jaws: The Revenge (1987). He died on December 22, 2014 in California, USA after suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, at age 89.
