An English actress, born on February 20, 1946 in Ramsgate, Kent, England. She suffered from severe poverty in childhood, and over time managed to launch her acting career, starting with the series Play for Today (1980). Her notable film roles include: Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. She was nominated twice for an Academy Award for the films Secrets & Lies and Little Voice.
