An English actor born on 15 June 1907 in Lewisham, London, England, United Kingdom. He studied at Marlborough College in Wiltshire. He worked as a journalist for Reuters in London among a variety of jobs. He began his artistic career in 1944. His most important works are the movie The Guns of Navarone (1961), the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), and the movie Murder She Said (1961). He died on July 2, 1975 in Winchester, Hampshire. He married Dellas Ethel Haydn and actress Irene von Meindorf.
