An English actor who was born in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom. He studied at Sherborne School and then studied German literature for a year at the University of Bern. He went to Lincoln College at Oxford and studied modern languages from 1956 to 1958, and he later worked as a...Read more teacher at Eton School from 1959 to 1964. He became a member of the British Foreign Office and second secretary at the British Embassy in Bonn and a political consul in Hamburg. He wrote his first novel in 1961, and since then he wrote many novels, some of which have been adapted into films. The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965) was his first work as a screenwriter. He acted in the movie Tinker. He is known for Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). He passed away on December 12, 2020 in Truro, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.
