Armie Hammer was born in Santa Monica, California. His mother is a former bank loan officer, his father owns several businesses, and his great-grandfather was oil tycoon and philanthropist Armand Hammer. He lived with his family for five years in the Cayman Islands when he was seven, and then settled back in Los Angeles to pursue acting. He began his acting career with small parts in TV series including Veronica Mars and Gossip Girl. His first leading role was in Billy: The Early Years in 2008. His breakthrough film role was in David Fincher's The Social Network in 2010. Then came other film roles including J. Edgar, Mirror Mirror, The Lone Ranger, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He received acclaim for his role in Luca Guadagnino's Call Me by Your Name in 2017 for which he was nominated for his first Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. |
