Ben Mendelsohn is an Australian television and film actor. Before venturing into film, he started out on a number of Australian television series, like "The Henderson Kids." Mendelsohn had his big screen debut in "The Year My Voice Broke" (1987), for which he won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Supporting Actor. His next major roles were in "The Big Steal" (1990) and "Spotswood" (1992), in which he acted alongside the legendary Anthony Hopkins. In 2000, he starred in two very different films: the Australian "Mullet" and the Hollywood thriller "Vertical Limit" about a young mountain climber who must scale the world's second highest peak to save his sister. Mendelsohn acted in a number of Australian television series in the following years, as well as the American sci-fi film "Knowing" (2009). 2010 was a landmark year for the actor. His performance in "Animal Kingdom" earned him the Inside Film IF Awards' Best Actor award and the AFI award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Australian GQ also named him Actor of the Year. Next he joined the Batman cast as John Daggett in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012). Dipping into the music scene in 2012, he also appeared in Florence + the Machine's music video for "Lover to Lover."
