D.W. Griffith was an American film director, writer and producer, born in Kentucky on January 22, 1875. He was considered to be one of the pioneers in this field. Between 1908 and 1912, he developed the main goals that contributed to transforming the film industry into a popular fictional art. He broke into the film industry in 1908. He is well known for directing and producing several movies such as The Birth of a Nation (1915), Broken Blossoms (1919), Abraham Lincoln (1930), and The Struggle (1931). He died on July 23, 1948 at the age of 73 in Hollywood, California.
