A Brazilian director, producer, and writer born in Rio de Janeiro on April 12, 1956. He worked in television as a writer and film director before he achieved international fame with the 1998 film Central Station, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. He is known for Terra Estrangeira, and Paris, je t'aime.
