An Italian director, born on January 3, 1921, in Rome, Italy. He was the son of filmmaker Roberto Roberti (a.k.a. Vincenzo Leone). Sergio studied law at the university but later dropped out. He worked as an assistant to director Vittorio De Sica on his famous film The Bicycle Thieves (1948). He was an influential filmmaker, best known as the creator of the Spaghetti Western genre. His most notable films include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, and Once Upon a Time in America.
