James Robert Rebhorn was an American actor. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of German descent. While studying political science in Wittenberg University in Ohio, Rebhorn was enrolled as an actor in plays like Aristophanes' "Lysistrata" and Moliere's "Tricks of Scapin"...Read more by his instructor Richard S. Huffman. After graduating in 1970, Rebhorn moved to New York City, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Columbia University's School of the Arts. Throughout his career, Rebhorn appeared in over 100 films, television series and plays. He was known for portraying WASP characters (WASP is short for White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, an informal term for a closed group of high-status Americans of English Protestant ancestry). He was also known for playing roles of lawyers, politicians, doctors, military men and also criminals. He played a serial killer in NBC's crime series “Law & Order.” Among his notable television roles were that of an abusive stepfather in the soap opera “Guiding Light,” and an abusive father in “As The World Turns.” He played John Brady in “Texas,” and a super-villain in the Nickelodeon series “The Adventures of Pete & Pete.” In 1998, he played the District Attorney in the two-part series finale of “Seinfeld.” Rebhorn's memorable film roles inculde “The Game,” “Meet the Parents,” “Regarding Henry,” “My Cousin Vinny,” and “Carlito's Way.” He died at the age of 65 at his home in March 21, 2014, after a long battle with melanoma, with which he was diagnosed in 1992.
