He is an American director and screenwriter, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He attended Pennsylvania State University. He also began his career as a writer for television series and an assistant to the author (Philip Klass) before writing and directing his first film, Arnold's Wrecking Co. (1973). He is known for Die Hard (1988) and 48 Hrs. (1982).
