Australian-American writer, director and producer, born on October 10, 1921 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He is the son of commander Richard Charles Clavell, an Australian Navy officer. He was educated at Portsmouth Grammar School. His works include The Great Escape (1963) and To Sir, with Love (1967). He died on September 7, 1994 in Vevey, Vaud, Switzerland.
