An American actress, born in Racine, Wisconsin, on June 3, 1911. Ellen Corby received three Emmys and two Golden Globes. Her most notable work includes I Remember Mama (1948), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, Vertigo (1958), Caged (1959), and The Waltons (1971-1980). She worked on films and TV series, playing supporting roles. She suffered a severe stroke in 1977, but she continued to work on television until 1997. Corby died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, on April 14, 1999
