An American actor born in Montclair, New Jersey, on March 26, 1916. He attended Wassookeag School in Maine, then worked as a sailor. When World War II broke out, he joined the US Marines under the name John Hamilton. Upon his return, Hayden briefly joined the Communist Party. He worked on the films The Killing (1956), Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), The Godfather (1972), and 1900 (1976).
