She is an Egyptian-American writer, journalist, and producer, raised in the USA. When she met Hasna At Boulahcen, a Moroccan-French woman who was falsely accused of being Europe's first female suicide bomber, she was working in the news before pursuing a career in directing and writing cinematic productions. She is known for You Resemble Me (2021), The Truth According to Darren Wilson (2015), and The Square (2013).
