A Spanish playwright, screenwriter, film director, novelist, and poet, born on August 11, 1932, in Melilla, Spanish Morocco (now in Spain). Arrabal has lived in France since 1955. His father, an army officer, was sentenced to death at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War...Read more because he was opposed to the military movement led by General Francisco Franco. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor, then he was transferred to various prisons, escaping from the last of them in 1941, during World War II, when he disappeared forever. The secret disappearance of Arrabal's father deeply affected him. His notable work includes Long Live Death (1971), I Will Walk Like a Crazy Horse (1973), and Odyssey of the Pacific (1982).
