Todd showed an interest in films from an early age, producing a number of short films, including The Suicide (1978), while he was still in high school. He studied art and semiotics at Brown University, during which...Read more time he directed his first short film Assassins: A Film Concerning Rimbaud (1985), and after graduation, he traveled to New York and became involved in independent films. In 1991, he directed his feature film debut, Poison, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. His notable films include Far from Heaven (2002), I'm Not There (2007), and Carol (2015).
