An American actor born in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA, on April 29, 1909. He got married to Judith Abbott (1946-1947), then got married to Marjorie Sanborn (1948-1994), with whom he had a child. His family wanted him to study law, but he preferred to study art to become an actor and graduated from the University of Wisconsin’s College of Dramatic Art. He made his debut in theater in a small role in the play The Spider (1928), and worked in theater for 3 years before moving to New York. Among his most prominent works are: Back in the Saddle (1941), Desert Bandit (1941), and The Great Gatsby (1974). He died on September 12, 1994 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, and his mother died four years later.
