American writer, born on August 22, 1935 in Norwich, Connecticut, 1994. She is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author for The Shipping News. She sent collections of short fiction stories to a number of magazines that ignored her. The 1996 novel, The Shipping News, was released with great interest and another novel, Brokeback Mountain, made its way to the cinema.
