• A Belgian writer, born on February 13, 1903, in Liège, Belgium. He is considered among the greatest novelists of the 20th century. Simenon was a prolific writer, publishing over...Read more 450 novels, 193 of which are under his own name, the rest under pseudonyms, and 83 of them feature the famous character Detective Jules Maigret, in addition to countless short stories. In 1919, at the age of 15, Simenon began working at the Gazette de Liège. During this period, he conducted many interviews with many notable international figures, such as Leon Trotsky. In the year 1978, his daughter, Marie-Jo, committed suicide, an event that would suffuse Simenon's later life with darkness and pessimism. His works sold almost 550 million copies and have been translated to many languages. He died on September 4, 1989.
