A Canadian-American actor and producer, who produced many silent comedies, in addition to creating memorable slapstick routines and characters, such as the Keystone Cops. He became a screenwriter and director, as he learned film techniques, after which he founded his own...Read more production company Keystone Studios. In 1914, he produced his first feature-length comedy film, Tillie's Punctured Romance. His best-known films include His Bitter Pill (1916), A Small Town Idol (1921), and The Shriek of Araby (1923), a parody of Rudolph Valentino's movie. He died in California on November 5, 1960 at the age of 80.
