Betty Garrett was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri, USA, on May 23, 1919. She received a Golden Globe Award in 1975 for the TV series All in the Family (1971-1979) and a star on the Walk of Fame in 2003. She married the actor Larry Parks (1944-1975), with whom she had two children,...Read more and she remained with him until his death. Among her most important works are Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949), Neptune's Daughter (1949), On the Town (1949), and Laverne & Shirley (1976). She studied acting under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City until she signed a contract with MGM in 1947. She participated in numerous Broadway musicals and successful Hollywood musical films. Her and her husband's membership in the Communist Party in the first half of the 1940s had an impact on their careers. Her two sons are composer Garrett Parks and actor Andrew Parks. Betty Garrett died on February 12, 2011, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
