An American actress, born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on December 10, 1914 as Mary Leta Dorothy Slaton. She got married to Herbie Kaye (1935-1939), then she got married to William Ross Howard III (1943-1978), with whom she had two children. Dorothy was of French-Spanish-Irish descent. She studied at secretarial school until she excelled in typing. She's known for My Favorite Brunette (1947), Donovan's Reef (1963), and the Road to... movies. She received two stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for her work in film and radio. Dorothy opened a chain of beauty salons under the name Dorothy Lamour in New York. She died on September 22, 1996, in Los Angeles, of a heart attack.
