American actor, singer and dancer, born on November 19, 1889, in Indianapolis, Indiana, as Webb Parmalee Hollenbeck. He left school at age 13 and went to study music and painting. At age 19, he was a professional dancer in New York, and in his mid-twenties he worked in musicals...Read more on Broadway and London and in silent films. His first cinematic success was in Laura (1944) and The Razor's Edge (1946), both of which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He won a Golden Globe Award in 1947 and received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. Among his notable works: Titanic (1953), and Three Coins in the Fountain (1954). He died on October 13, 1966 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, of a heart attack.
