A French actor, born on October 27, 1932, in Paris, as Jean-Pierre Crochon, to a doctor father and an opera singer mother. He won an NBR Award in 1994 for Best Acting by an Ensemble shared with the cast of Prêt-à-Porter (1994). Among his most notable works are Is Paris Burning? (1966), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974). Cassel studied acting at the Cours Simon and landed one of his earliest screen roles when he met Gene Kelly, who introduced him in the movie The Happy Road (1957). Cassel went on to appear in many successful comedies that helped him play the love interest of many notable actresses, such as Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve. From 1966 to 1974, he served as head of the French Actors Union. Jean-Pierre Cassel died on April 19, 2007, in Paris, France, of cancer.
