He was a Canadian-American actor, born on November 23, 1902 in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada. He was the boxing and wrestling champion of the US Coast Guard during his military service. He used his sinister looks and distinctive voice in some of the cinematic roles he played. He is known for Gone with the Wind (1939), The Miracle Worker (1962), and Manhunt (1959-1961). He received a Star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. He was married to the actress Jean Inness until she died, and had two children with her. Jon Jory, his son, headed the Actors Theater of Louisville, Kentucky, for 31 years before becoming a drama professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. Victor died of a heart attack on February 12, 1982, in Santa Monica, California.
