He was an American actor, born on September 11, 1892, in Jacksonville, Oregon, USA, as Vance DeBar Colvig. He was incredibly gifted in music, art, and mime, and he spoke to different generations in different roles and was the voice of dozens of well-known characters in films, records, radio, and television. He went to school during the winter and worked in the circus and vaudeville in the spring. He studied at the Oregon Agricultural College, in Corvallis, where he took art classes and played clarinet in the band. He worked as a newspaper cartoonist and a clarinettist in circus bands before eventually setting up his own studio, Pinto Cartoon Comedies Co., where he created one of the first animated silent films in colour in San Francisco. After moving to Hollywood, he signed a contract with Walt Disney, where he worked on stories, co-wrote songs, and provided the voices of notable characters. He then signed a contract with MGM to draw and provide his voice for several films, and made appearances in TV and radio productions. He was married to Margaret Bourke Slavin , with whom he had four children before marrying Peggy Bernice Allaire. He passed away on October 3, 1967 from lung cancer in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
