An American author, born in Putnam, Connecticut, USA. She studied at Harvard Law School in 1872. She practiced law, then began writing, and became famous for the book series The Boxcar Children. She wrote many other books for children including The World in a Barn, Windows, The World on a Farm, Missionary Parakeet, and Peter Piper.
