She received 2 Stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for her work in TV and radio, and she was nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1956 and 1957. She was married to Neil Francis Agnew before marrying the producer and director Martin Gabel, with whom she had a child and stayed with him till he died. Arlene retired from show business and lived comfortably. She was known for the heart-shaped diamond necklace, which was given to her by her husband, Martin Gabel. In 1983, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her son admitted her to a nursing home until her death on May 31, 2001 in San Francisco, California, USA, affected by Alzheimer's and cancer.
