She studied at the University of Michigan from 1914 to 1916 and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Her first appearance on stage was in 1920, and in the same year, she joined Henry Miller's Company in Washington, D.C., after which she moved to New York and worked in silent cinema next to her theatrical activity. Povah contracted with Paramount Pictures and worked with MGM Studios. She died on August 7, 1975, in Port Washington, Long Island, New York, USA.
