An American actress, born in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, on November 21, 1912, as Eleanor Torrey Powell. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1984 and also received a regional Emmy Award for children's programming. Among her most important works are Born to Dance (1936), Lady Be Good (1941), and Ship Ahoy (1942). Eleanor began performing at a young age as she trained in dance and practiced it at Atlantic City clubs, and from there, she went on to perform in New York at the Ritz Grill and Casino de Paris when she was 16 years old, and a year later, she started her career on Broadway. In 1935, she moved to Hollywood and starred in musicals, contracting with MGM. She retired from the screen after her marriage to the star Glenn Ford, and after their separation, she worked in some nightclubs in the 1960s. Eleanor Powell died on February 11, 1982, in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, of cancer.
