A French actor, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, France. Francis received the Honorary Award at the 2004 Luchon International Film Festival. His father was a commercial director and his mother owned a sewing atelier. He attributes his love for cinema to his grandmother’s passion for American films. At the age of fifteen, he joined the Cours Florent, and after several years, he became a teacher there. In 1968, he joined the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique. In 1971, he became a member of the Comédie-Française and played several theatrical roles, and he also worked in cinema in several roles. In 1981, he left the Comédie-Française for the sake of cinema, but he was unable to overcome his shyness in front of the camera, so he turned to directing in 1986. His works include Le Dîner de Cons (1998) and Zodiaque (2004–2006).
